Heading Back East!
On 31, Jan 2013 | In News | By Joel Friedman
I’m very excited to announce that my family is moving back to the East coast, Washington D.C. to be specific. My wife, Jenny Bilfield, is the new President and CEO of the Washington Performing Arts Society (WPAS). Jenny will start April 1st and Hallie and I will join later. Meanwhile, I have a number of projects in the pipeline and will look forward to reconnecting friends and colleagues on the East coast network. Washington Post article
WPAS is an historic organization and one of the nation’s premier presenters (concerts are presented at The Kennedy Center, Strathmore, and elsewhere). The board has developed an impressive and ambitious strategic plan to expand programming and build audiences — in addition to continuing to grow what has become an arts education program (including embassy collaborations) of unparalleled depth and impact. The announcement was made by WPAS chairman of the board Reggie Van Lee and Wynton Marsalis from the stage of The Kennedy Center during Wynton’s recent Tuesday evening WPAS concert. The organization has been around for 48 years, and its first chairman was Todd Duncan — George Gershwin’s choice to originate the role of Porgy in Porgy and Bess. So, a real sense of inclusivity resonates back to the very beginning of WPAS.
