One Into One

One Into One

Medium:
Instrumentation
soprano and piano

One Into One – for soprano and piano – was a wedding present for my wife Jenny Bilfield. The choice of “white note music” portrays this love song’s lyrically purity and simplicity.  The lyric is by my brother, and frequent collaborator, Seth Friedman.

Program Note

One Into One – for soprano and piano – was originally written as a wedding present for my wife Jenny Bilfield. I chose to portray this love song’s lyrically purity and simplicity as “white note music.” The music is crafted only from the C diatonic collection, not a single accidental to be heard. The song was also originally the finale to the larger song cycle, also titled One Into One, but is often performed as an individual song. The lyric is by my brother, and frequent collaborator, Seth Friedman.

A touch, a hand, a kiss, a tear
Hold to my heart.
Be one with me, be now be here. . .

Now, be here, be one,
be here with me,
one life, one love, we start, now.

Deeper we fall love
Nearer we are to sky
Let's fly away now
but let's not move at all.
One into one
One into one
let's fall.

Light as light is, uplift my heart.
Though bound by love, by love unbound,
be free, be mine. Always. Ever.
Here to carry, to carry through fear, through dark and light, through joy, through life.

Let's fly away love
but let's not move at all
One into one
One into one
Let's fall
let's fly . . . let's fall . . . let's fly . . . let's fall
we'll fly
