Premiere of my “Habit & Collars” by Kalchev & Hurst

Tomorrow night (8 pm) my *very* short, whimsical 2 piano piece “Habits & Collars” will be premiered by Catholic University faculty Ivo L. Kalchev & Francesca T. Hurst on a concert featuring a complete performance of Robert Schumann’s Kinderszenen (Scenes from Childhood), Op 15 for solo piano, alongside Scenes from Catholic University, a newly-composed set of pieces by students and faculty of the composition division and themed around familiar vignettes from the campus of The Catholic University of America. It’ll be a fun evening! Reception to follow in the lower lobby. Free and open to the public.

Elastic Band for septet with Inscape, round 2!

The fabulous Inscape Chamber Orchestra is performing Elastic Band (For septet) for the second time this Sunday, October 22nd at 5 pm at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer. World Premiere of Elastic Band, for Septet by Inscape!

The fantastic Inscape Chamber Orchestra asked for a new version of my popular piece Elastic Band – this time I’ve scored it for clarinet, string quintet, and percussion (it is all about the bass…). They will be performing the piece twice this October! The premiere is October 7, 2017 . 4PM at the Christ Church here in Georgetown, and features me and Mozart, a lovely combination. And it’s FREE! For information click HERE. The second performance is on October 22, 2017 . 5PM and features works by Golijov, me, and Hindemith, and is at the Episcopal Church Of the Redeemer in Bethesda, MD. Montalvo Residency – Fall 2017!

I’ve recently returned from spending time out at the Montalvo Arts Center in Saratoga, CA as a Lucas Arts Fellow. While out there I worked on a new commission from ModernMedieval Trio of Voices based upon the writings of Hildegard of Bingen. The World Premiere of this new vocal piece will be on May 9, 2017 on the Shenson Chamber Music Concerts at the National Museum of Women in the Arts here in Washington D.C. on a program titled The Living Word. It will also  and then on the following night, May 10th, at the Virginia Arts Festival. The program includes works by Hildegard, Caroline Shaw, Caleb Burhans, Joel Phillip Friedman, Daniel Thomas Davis, and Jacqueline Horner-Kwiatek.

Violinist.com picks up on my Johansen commission!

I’m happy to announce that Violinist.com has just announced this spring’s 2018 Johansen International Competition for Young String Players and my commissioned work “Johansen!” The competition will take place March 14–17, 2018, in Washington, D.C. with judges violinist Chee-Yun, violist Timothy Deighton, and cellist Peter Stumpf.
